Choosing A Host
This is one the most important choices to make but easily overlooked. Not all hosts are equal because today you can have anyone with a computer set up as a hosting company and resell for another company. You will only notice when things start going wrong or you need help with something. If you want to go with the one I always use and suggest to others, Click Here.
There are many things to consider when choosing a web host and the first question you should ask yourself is what the purpose of the site is. If its going to be a fun site, then there are many free hosts that will do the job. However, if its for business you have to consider many other things but even then if you are just stating out you can consider the low cost alternatives. Web hosts can be ranked by the following:
1. cost
2. Performance
3.Uptime or reliability
4.Whats included in the price
5.Customer service
6. User friendly or not!
7.Business ethics
My Thoughts On Hosting
If you are new and just want a fun site, then go for a free site with Google or Yahoo. My advice is to stay away from unknown providers because all they often want is your name and personal details so they can then try to sell you paid hosting.
And often the free provider will sell on your details. The old saying you get what you pay for still applies online. Its beyond me why people think business online should be any different to offline.
A few days ago I had a lady contact me for a website project and after I had completed she told me she was not happy. When pressed she told me the reason was that she could get the same thing with a free provider !
Clearly she was quite happy to pay for business expenses offline but was not prepared to pay for a simple website which she would be able to build upon for years. I didn't have the patience to point out that the site would never be hers and could be shut down anytime and with all the added problems.
So please don't be afraid to pay a few dollars for hosting and a good website. I have been with hostgator for years and to tell you the truth I have had my share of problems with them.
But their up time is good and any problems are often sorted out after an email or two. Recently they upgraded to a new online help system with a live person but in my opinion it is a waste of time and far worse than the previous one.
So if you decide to go with them just use email ! I pay about $10 dollars a month and have got dozens of sites with them. What I really like is the Cpanel and easy install of Wordpress sites.
I can install a great looking Blog in a few minutes and then go on to make it run fast and securely with all the plugins Thanks to hostgator I am now making money online.Try them just use the link below.
